Dear Brampton residents,
Happy Monday, beautiful souls! I am all about transparency. I took the liberty of emailing our Mayor and city councilors this morning and wanted to share it with you all. Please feel free to email them with your concerns regarding the speed cameras and demand removal! I have provided their emails in my previous update. I will keep you updated with their response. God help us!
Dear Mayor Brown and Brampton City Councillors,
I am writing on behalf of thousands of Brampton residents regarding the overwhelming opposition to the speed cameras in our city. Attached are images of the two petitions. The numbers speak for themselves! The vast majority of Bramptonians do not support these cameras.
The reason I started this petition was after visiting the courthouse to dispute a ticket. What I witnessed was deeply concerning. The waiting area was flooded with frustrated, furious residents. Many were seniors with 40-50 years of spotless driving records, now holding three tickets in their hands. On fixed pensions, they are already struggling to afford food, let alone these unexpected fines for driving under 10km over the limit!
Adding to the frustration, residents are given the illusion that these tickets can be disputed. In reality, there is no disputing them! What the camera records is final. There is no grace, no human judgement, and no consideration of context. This process wastes valuable time, especially for people taking time off work in the false hope of having their case heard.
If safety is truly priority, speed bumps and flashing lights, and other proven traffic calming measures would be far more effective than these automated traps. Instead, these cameras have become nothing more than revenue generators. In some Community Safety Zones, children on bicycles are moving faster than the cars - the situation is absurd!
As tax paying citizens, we are demanding the removal of all cameras, or at the very least, that they be turned off after school hours, weekends and when school is not in session during the summer. With the cost of living and taxes already soaring, these surprise tickets are adding unnecessary financial strain to already struggling households. Bramptonians can only take so much! As the saying goes, you can only poke a bear so many times before it retaliates. I urge you to listen to your constituents and act in their best interest.
I am more than willing to meet with you, along with thousands of fellow residents who signed the petition, to discuss this matter further.
Sincerely,
Carolina Cutruzzola
