Andy Carter started this petition to Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office Sim Gill

On sunday AUG, 2, 2020  I was part of an organized peaceful assembly asking for police reform that took place in Cottonwood Heights, UT. (suburb of Salt Lake City)

For roughly 15min We danced in the streets and handed out posters to the neighborhood residents. As Americans our first amendment rights allow us to protest in the streets (regardless of state by laws) as long as our assembly has more than 15 participants.

With in minutes of starting our march Police surrounded and ambushed our group of roughly 200 citizens. Police demanded that we move our demonstration to the side walk. With how tightly the police had us pinched off fitting 200 people on that area of sidewalk was impossible.

At this point the police started trapping citizens and brutally assaulting them with batons, mace, and tazers.  I personally watched an officer mace and body slam a young girl to the ground all because she was standing still video recording, as three other officers brutally beat a young man.  After witnessing this brutality I pleaded with them to stop beating on these kids. This is when they maced me, dragged me out of view behind a residents truck and multiple officers annihilated me with buttons, tazers, and mace.

To be clear absolutely zero violence or property damage had occurred from our group until the police bombarded us with violence.  We were given almost zero time to organize our group before we were apprehended and brutally beaten by police officers.

The 8 of us who were arrested are each facing charges upwards of 5 years in prison.  Please ask your self should Americans be facing 5 years in prison for walking down a suburban street on a sunday afternoon? Should recording a video on your phone land you with years in a prison cell?

please do your part to help us get these charges dropped.
