The Issue

Community Concerns Regarding Crismon–Guadalupe Connection

We, the undersigned residents of District 6 respectfully express our concerns regarding the proposed connection of Crismon Road to Guadalupe Road.

Many homeowners were informed at the time of purchase and for years that this section of Crismon Road would remain closed, with primary traffic routes directed to Signal Butte and Ellsworth Roads. This understanding influenced our decisions to live in these communities and raises concerns about transparency and changing commitments.

Key Concerns

1. Student Safety
There are four Gilbert Public Schools and one charter school within proximity.  Increased traffic through this area raises serious safety concerns for students who walk, bike, or travel through these intersections. There have already been incidents involving children being struck by vehicles, and additional traffic increases this risk.

2. Increased Traffic and Congestion
The area already experiences heavy traffic, especially during school hours. Opening this road may worsen congestion and create unsafe conditions, increasing traffic from the South to the North.  Does Mesa plan to widen Crismon at Baseline as well or are we creating another bottleneck.

3. Lack of Community and School District Input
The Gilbert Public School District, local businesses, or all affected neighborhoods were not properly consulted. Their input is critical given the direct impact on student safety and daily traffic for the homeowners who live in the area.

4. Business Impact
Local businesses, including the Niagara Water Plant, had concerns about increased traffic affecting safe access for operations.  Have they been consulted regarding this change?

5. Safety and Traffic Study
We request a current and transparent traffic and safety study that considers schools, pedestrian activity, and continued community growth.

6. Enforcement Concerns
While the city has stated large trucks will be restricted on this new stretch of Crismon, existing issues with speeding and red-light violations raise doubts about enforcement.

7. Communication and Notification
Many residents were not informed in a timely manner, and concerns have not always been met with clear or respectful communication. We would like Scott Somers to clarify the Red Tape he claims to have cleared to pave way for this project.

Our Request

We respectfully ask city officials to:

Pause the proposed road connection
Conduct a thorough traffic and safety study
Engage with the school district, local businesses, and all affected residents
Improve transparency and communication prior to making decisions
Reconsider this decision based on community safety concerns

Our community supports thoughtful growth, but safety, transparency, and quality of life must come first.  As a community we struggle with the recent announcement as a done deal, and question Scott Somers actively looking to contract the work out by early Summer 2026.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
