As a resident of the Niagara Region, I am deeply affected by the recent and upcoming property tax increases. In 2023, we faced a staggering 7.58 per cent increase in our regional portion of property taxes. Now, we are bracing ourselves for another blow - a further 7.02 per cent increase in 2024. This means that within just two years, our property taxes will have risen by more than 14.6 per cent.

This is not just an economic issue; it's a matter of fairness and justice for all residents who call this region home. The Niagara Regional Council's decision to impose these significant tax hikes is causing undue financial stress on many families and individuals who are already struggling to make ends meet.

The council's role should be to represent our interests and ensure our well-being - not burden us with excessive taxes without clear justification or tangible benefits in return.

We believe it's time for change - time to dissolve the current Niagara Regional Council that has failed to protect its residents from unfair taxation practices.
