I am a UK citizen, born and bred here, working hard and contributing to the society like many others. Despite not coming from a privileged background, I recognise the escalating violence perpetrated by the England Defense League (EDL) on non-white individuals in our nation. This organisation is resorting to unwarranted aggression against innocent civilians, burning immigration centres, and desecrating holy places of worship, often with worshippers still inside. These are not peaceful protests anymore, but acts of violence and terror.

Our nation is renowned for its multiculturalism, and this beauty is under threat. Statistics from Tell MAMA, an organisation that records and measures anti-Muslim incidents in the UK, reported a steady rise in hate crimes (Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006), translating to the lives of people of different colours, races, or religions being disrupted daily. Individuals are forced to flee their homeland, their safe havens, out of fear of this relentless violence.

People who enrich our society with their diverse cultures and beliefs are being forced to live in perpetual fear, and this is unacceptable. This is an urgent call to our authorities to dismantle the England Defense League and implement stronger measures to safeguard our multicultural society.
