The Issue

This campaign starts from a personal concern for the local community, a community that I believe is being continuously exploited in delicate moments for the sake of media content. Scandalous activities, triggered by Henry Poitras, owner of Brattleboro News and Planet Hank, have created a persistent, harmful issue that we need to address and rectify.

Henry Poitras, under the guise of local news reporting, regularly encroaches upon tragic moments, thus turning our community's pain into a public spectacle for his various social media platforms. His invasive reporting style is not only disrespectful, but it violates the trust that should exist between a community and its press.

Poitras’s self-proclaimed news outlet often focuses on a specific demographic: those grappling with substance addiction, homelessness, or mental health challenges. This kind of reporting not only exposes the struggles of these individuals but also raises ethical questions regarding the negative portrayal of vulnerable populations.

While we appreciate the role of media in keeping the public informed, it is crucial to balance this with empathy and respect for the public. Our community deserves a media outlet that respects its privacy in times of vulnerability, not one that exploits these moments for personal gain.

If Brattleboro News, under the leadership of Henry Poitras, continues this practice, it may just be a matter of time before more members of our community fall victim to this intrusive and exploitative behavior. We cannot let this continue unchecked.

Poitras creates a pervasive sense of fear, not just towards the police but also regarding the portrayal of working-class individuals and those facing various hardships in the media. The very existence of someone who thrives on capturing intimate moments of distress can foster an environment where people feel they must be constantly on guard. It generates a chilling effect, making it difficult to express dissent or voice concerns without the fear of becoming a target of ridicule or harassment, particularly with Poitras's relentless online presence.

The first step to stop this is to request the disbanding of Brattleboro News and to bring an end to Henry Poitras' exploitative practices. Let's protect our community's dignity and ensure that we have a respectful press in place. Let's call for change.

Sign this petition today to fight against media exploitation and safeguard our community.
