Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I wrote to you, thank you for your support throughout 2022. Happy New Year! Unfortunately this year has started with some pretty upsetting news for me. I recently found out that Disney is set to produce a remake of the problematic and ableist 1996 animated musical, the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I can’t believe I’ve spent the last two years campaigning Disney Studios to create a disabled Disney Princess and actually have some legitimate positive disabled representation, only for them to announce a new production of what was an ableist, stereotypical interpretation of the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
People always ask me why I think disabled experience and ableism still have so far to go. This is why. Because every boss at Disney green-lighted this. Because hundreds of people have to be involved in pre-production before any announcements/hints can be made. Because Josh Gad is set to produce this and star as Quasimodo. Because someone had this idea in the first place.

Instead of commissioning original work from creatives with lived experience of disability to create something new, exciting, inclusive and fit for 2023, this is what Disney decides to invest in - shameful!
Thank you for your support.
