You guys, there's a new Muppet on Sesame Street and she's in a wheelchair! Her name is Ameera, an 8-year-old refugee displaced by conflict and she's in a funky purple wheelchair due to a spinal injury. She also uses crutches.

Honestly reading about this and seeing the amount of thought and care that the Sesame Workshop have put into developing her character makes my heart double in size. This is exactly the kind of healthy well-crafted representation disabled kids need to see for themselves and able-bodied kids need to learn from. This is how we grow adults that are supportive and meaningful allies.

Seeing this has made me even more determined to get Disney onboard and our gorgeous disabled Disney Princess out in theatres. This shows me that it is possible and can be done. It's just a matter of Disney being brave enough.
