Dismissal of Cllr. Tefo Raphadu (Ward 105) for Equal Access to Services and Accountability

The Issue

As long-time residents of Ward 105 in Alexandra, South Africa, we have been grappling with several issues that are not only affecting our livelihoods but also test our faith in the local leadership. Our demands are straightforward: a standardised electricity tariff; transparency in projects and tender allocation; regular and reliable service delivery; community engagement in decision-making processes; the resolution of title deeds issues; and regulation of councillor's office hours.

Many of us, with scant resources, are burdened by erratic and exorbitant electricity tariffs. The installation of expensive electricity meters, which many cannot afford, was enforced without our consent. We need an equitable, flat-rate tariff system that respects our rights and financial constraints.

Transparency is central to democracy. Yet, we are left in the dark about significant ward-related projects and tenders which unsurprisingly leads to the suspicion of nepotism and favouritism. It is crucial to establish a transparent system that places the community's interests at the forefront.

Service delivery is far below the expected standards. Our community endures leaking pipes, drainage problems, irregular water supply, and frequent electricity load reductions causing significant inconveniences. Unfortunately, pressing matters often go unattended due to a lack of adequately trained and accountable staff.

The promised solution to our unresolved title deeds issue remains a hollow promise. Many of us have been occupying houses for over two decades without title deeds, causing undue uncertainty. We deserve clarity on this issue.

Finally, the office hours of our councillor are inconsistent, leading to delays in addressing our grievances and further disenfranchising us as a community.

It's time to put an end to these widespread issues and build a community that is representative of its citizens and meets their needs. Sign the petition and stand in solidarity with the residents of Ward 105 as we demand equal access to services and accountability from our leadership and in removing the current Coucillor Mr. Tefo Raphadu.
