As a steadfast user and supporter of the house appliance colloquially known as the "dish" washer, I find the title greatly under-represents the versatility, utility, and essential role this machine plays in our daily life. This machine regularly takes care of a myriad of items, from dishes, cutlery, and cookware, to toys (kid and adult varieties), home decorations, and even certain types of footwear. Yes, beyond dishes, proving itself to truly be a universal washing machine. 

Contrastingly, we have our "clothes" washing machine, which, although vital in its own right, is limited to laundering fabrics only. The specificity of its function is accurately captured in its name. By that same logic, shouldn't our esteemed dish washer, too, be rightfully christened based on its actual functionality?

On an average day, an American family can fill up and run a dishwasher multiple times (Source: Energy Star). That’s multiple exhaustive cycles of washing a diverse collection of items, demonstrating its truly versatile nature. Hence, I propose we change the name of the "dish" washer to 'washing machine', giving it the recognition it rightfully deserves.
