Discuss CSU sexual health resources during student orientation

Discuss CSU sexual health resources during student orientation
The Issue
As a student at Colorado State University (CSU), I've experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating the many resources and organizations available on campus. With so much information, it can be difficult and confusing to identify the right resources that cater to specific sexual health needs. Consistent access to these resources is essential for the well-being of students, and the current system is hard to navigate for those who don't already know where to look.
Orientation should serve as a comprehensive introduction to college life, providing new students with a roadmap for accessing essential services. While the current program does a good job at discussing resources for survivors of sexual assault, there is not adequate coverage of where students can find other resources like condoms, plan b, and period supplies. This is a missed opportunity to ensure that students are well-informed about their health and safety from the start of their collegiate journey.
We propose that CSU include this information during the presentation on campus health insurance requirements. Information about the Survivor Advocacy and Foundational Education Center is already included, and it wouldn't take much longer to provide students with more information regarding where to access free or reduced resources. Doing so would streamline the process of students looking for support and make it easier for them to get what they need.
We call on CSU administrators, orientation coordinators, and student health leaders to take immediate action in revising the orientation program to include all of the sexual health programs that this school offers. This is a crucial step toward creating a safer and more informed campus for everyone.
