Discord CEO Jason Citron proposed the addition of ETH wallets as a connection to Discord. This would allow for crypto/NFT exchange which is harmful for several reasons, but mostly due to scams and theft of accounts and information, which is a problem that Discord has had in many other places without much marked improvement. I believe that the addition of crypto/NFT support goes against what Discord originally stood for, which was a platform on which to connect with others in a simple way via text, audio, video chat, and livestreaming. Creating what would essentially be a marketplace would be an undesired strain on services. NFT holders have already been scammed out of information via Discord, encouraging this behavior is not a smart move.
This isn't even mentioning the hundreds of direct messaging scams ravaging Discord that already encourage use of crypto. I sincerely believe that Discord's already large number of security issues would be made worse by this change.
