Petition updateDublin Zoo should only sell Vegan foodClarification: I not trying to make zoos more appealing to vegans

This petition is not trying to make zoos more appealing to vegans. It is to make non-vegans, and particularly zoo staff, think about their hypocrisy, and to save animals from needless exploitation and execution.

Vegans do not support the use of animals for entertainment so would not give their money to a zoo.

Given animal agriculture is largely responsible for deforestation to clear space for grazing and animal feed production, eliminating such offerings from Dublin zoo's menus will have the extra beneficial effect of reducing the encroachment of destructive human enterprise into free-living animal territories. Natural habitat destruction is one of the very reasons zoos give for their dubious existence. This would also lessen the likelihood of further zoonotic diseases.

My proposal that they encourage veganism could also put a dent in the market for the poaching of exotic animals.

Ireland declared a state of climate emergency several years ago and recognise that fHarmed herd numbers need to be reduced given our national GHEs from animal ag are some of the highest in Europe at 33%. Non-human animals suffer more catastrophies than the perpetrators of climate change via wildfires and floods, so Dublin zoo should be championing veganism as an effective tool to help tackle this growing crisis.

Another suggestion would be that any resident animal who can transition to a vegan diet should be made to do so.

Dogs and cats can be vegan so I'd imagine many of the species in permanent captivity could be put on peaceful food too.

It might just prolong some of the animals' lives and health: https://v-dog.com/blogs/v-dog-blog/bramble-the-collies-secrets-to-living-to-age-25
