There is no doubt that Sean Taylor is one of the most prolific players in University of Miami football history. His tenacity, dedication to his craft, execution and heart make him one of the best ever to dawn the Orange and Green.

Unfortunately, Sean's life came to a premature, heinous end on November 27, 2007, otherwise, we believe he'd be celebrated as one of the best defensive players all-time in the history of any level of football.

Here are some statistical facts about Sean's career at 'The U" - courtesy of former UM Sports Information Director Phil de Montmollin aka The Count:

***Consensus First-Team All-American as a junior in 2003.

***Finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award (nation’s best defensive back) in 2003.

***Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003.

***First-Team All-Big East selection (voted by coaches) in 2002 and 2003 with a unanimous selection in ’03.

***Named Jack Harding MVP (team MVP) in 2003.

***Ranks first all-time at UM with 10 single-season interceptions in 2003 (tied with Bennie Blades)

***Ranks second all-time at UM with 306 career interception yards.

***Ranks second all-time at UM with three career INT’s for touchdowns.

***Ranks fifth all-time with 14 career interceptions.

**As a junior in 2003, led the nation with 10 interceptions and tied the school record for interceptions in a season en route to consensus First-Team All-American status.

***His 184 interception return yards in 2013 are the second most INT return yards in a season in the UM record books.

***Returned three interceptions for a touchdowns in 2003, to set a school-record for “pick-six’s” in a season.

***Had streak of four consecutive games with an interception in 2003.

***Named first-team All-Big East as a sophomore with 87 tackles (53 solo), four interceptions and a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown.

***As a sophomore, intercepted two passes and recorded a career-high 12 tackles in Fiesta Bowl vs. Ohio State.

***One of only four true freshmen to play on the 2001 national championship team, making an immediate impact on special teams with 26 tackles (20 solo).  Named Special Teams Player of the Week for performance at Pitt.

***Went on to a four-year career as a first-round draft pick of the Washington Football Team where he totaled 344 tackles (245 solo), 12 interceptions and four forced fumbles.

***Named to NFL Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2007

With the above statistics in mind and Taylor's overall dedication to the University of Miami and its success on the gridiron, it is with a deep conviction that we, the fans of the University of Miami football team, graciously ask for his number 26 to never be worn again, and for it to be retired like those of Ted Hendricks, Vinny Testaverde, Jim Dooley, and George Mira.

Thank you,

The undersigned
