As a resident of Calgary, I have personally experienced the immense inconvenience and frustration caused by the lack of a direct flight between Calgary and Chennai. This petition aims to address this issue by urging airlines to establish a direct flight route between these two vibrant cities.

Currently, individuals traveling between Calgary and Chennai are forced to endure multiple layovers in various cities such as Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver. This not only adds unnecessary travel time but also increases the overall cost of the journey. It is disheartening that despite being the third largest city in Canada, Calgary has been overlooked when it comes to offering direct flights to India.

The absence of a direct flight option affects not only Calgarians but also residents from nearby cities such as Edmonton, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Regina & Fort McMurray. These individuals are compelled to travel long distances or incur additional expenses just to catch their connecting flights from other Canadian cities.

According to recent statistics provided by The City of Calgary Economic Development Department, there is a significant demand for air travel between Alberta and South India due to business opportunities and family connections. In fact, over 50% of all international passengers traveling from Alberta have India as their final destination or origin.

Moreover, research conducted by Travel Alberta reveals that tourism from India has been steadily increasing over the years. By establishing a direct flight route between Calgary and Chennai, we can tap into this growing market potential while simultaneously boosting our local economy through increased tourism revenue.

It is worth noting that several major airlines already operate successful non-stop flights between Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver and Delhi but no flights to the southern parts  of India. Therefore, it is evident that there is both demand for this route as well as viability for airlines operating it profitably.
