Petition updateDingo Conservation is Crucial for BiodiversityKILLING INDIGENOUS WILDLIFE WITH 1080 POISON IS NOT ON

Saddened by the news that the bodies of a half dozen dingoes killed with 1080 toxic poison were recently found on World Heritage Listed Fraser Island in the Orchid Beach area, I was more than shocked by the news that dingoes were to be “used” in what can only be described as a mad “sci fi” nightmare, by injecting their bodies with a time bomb of 1080 poison, to kick in after the dingoes had served their purpose in a release and destroy of nuisance goats on Pelorus Island in Queensland. This is the same toxin that was unlawfully used to kill dingoes on Fraser Island. One of the dingo bodies on Fraser Island was partly concealed by burying, the other five were in the near vicinity. It begs to ask who introduced the toxic 1080 poison to the pristine Fraser Island? Anecdotally it is farmers who use 1080 to control marauding “wild dogs”. They must seek a permit from their local Council (in Queensland). In this instance it would have been the South Burnett Council. But was it a farmer who transported the toxin 1080 to Fraser Island? Supposedly 1080 is a controlled substance so whoever got their hands on it must have applied somewhere. Although, I do believe 1080 is more readily available than authorities will admit. With news of the sci-fi style experiment which is now in play on Pelorus Island amid much criticism from animal advocates and freedom from cruelty organisations, one can’t help but ask, was it the same hand that dished out the 1080 poison to the Fraser Island dingoes that is behind the horrendous scheme on Pelorus? Was it a “test run” for Pelorus on Fraser Island? Or was it a person who lives on the Island and doesnt like dingoes? Or a former ranger? It’s hard to imagine a tourist would have a concealed bait with them on a pleasure trip to the Island, so on the basis of ticking the boxes a short list is easy to compile. Anecdotally, the person behind what I believe to be a “mad sci-fi style scheme” for Pelorus reputedly hates dingoes, questions the “purity” of the Fraser Island Dingo and, I believe, stands to benefit financially from the tests being undertaken on Pelorus Island. It’s time the community understood the important role the Australian dingo plays as apex predator in Australia, that there are many other ways of controlling livestock loss than by using one of the most gruesome poisons ever devised. 100 grams of 1080 is sufficient to kill a child. The deaths of the dingoes on Fraser Island is under slow and quiet scrutiny, and under the Nature Conservation Act should bring a fine of over $300,000.00, but will there be a real investigation? Will this disgraceful “sci-fi” mad plan for Pelorus be halted? Australia has a disgraceful reputation for destruction of indigenous wildlife, but this turn of the hand for Pelorus with absolute disregard for moral or ethical standards leaves me wondering, where to next, and where will 1080 turn up next? Yesterday Fraser Island and now Pelorus Island Please encourage people to sign this Petition.
