Pressure Dina Rodriguez to hand her platform over to a Black woman or WOC
The Issue
Dina Rodriguez, the individual behind the Instagram accounts @lettershoppe / @lettershoppenation / @womenofillustration has stolen images from multiple Black women and likely others. She went on to trace those images, place her brand name on them, and then sell products with their images entirely without consent from those women.
Dina has been confronted and openly admitted to being a fraud who uses and profits other people's images without requesting permission or offering compensation. She has paid Nyome Nichols (@curvynyome on Instagram) and potentially others, but this is not enough. Profiting off of Black women's bodies is wrong. Offering inadequate compensation after selling these people's images is immoral.
This petition demands that Dina Rodriguez fully compensate those whose images they stole to the full extent of their request: appropriate compensation is to be determined by each person whose image was stolen and may be dependent on products sold and/or emotional labor put into receiving this delayed compensation. So far she has paid at least one of the women and has allegedly reached out to others. We also demand that she hand @womenofillustration, a self-proclaimed "feminist" Instagram account that has been stealing the images of Black women, over to the community that she has hurt. If she will not do this, we ask her to delete the account.
Signing this petition shows your support for all of the individuals affected by their images being shared without first receiving consent and compensation and will provide further pressure on Dina to pay the people who have not been contacted or who are still negotiating compensation what they deserve and either delete @womenofillustration or hand the Instagram account over to women who are BIPOC.
