Dight Street Richmond -Prevent Dangerous Round-about Construction
The issue
Living near the proposed site for a new round-about in Richmond, NSW 2753, I am deeply concerned about the dangers it poses. The hill where the construction is planned is not only steep but has limited visibility, making it perilous for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. It’s a matter of safety for everyone in our community.
Recent studies have shown that round-abouts can significantly reduce the number of fatal collisions at intersections. However, this applies mainly to locations with good visibility and level ground. The proposed location on the hill in Richmond does not meet these criteria, as the incline and restricted sightlines could lead to more accidents rather than preventing them.
Statistics from the New South Wales Roads and Maritime Services indicate that intersections on inclines are three times more likely to experience accidents than those on flat surfaces. Considering this alarming data, it is urgent to reconsider the location of this round-about for the safety of our residents.
Richmond residents and commuters regularly use this route. Adding a round-about here would not only increase the risk of traffic mishaps but also potentially slow down emergency services and increase response times to critical situations in our community.
There are alternative solutions to managing traffic flow that do not compromise safety. The residents have advocated for a STOP SIGN to be installed for traffic exiting the new subdivision. This could be effective without the added risk brought by a poorly placed round-about.
We urge the Hawkesbury City Council and relevant authorities to prioritize public safety and find a safer, more feasible solution to the traffic concerns on Ice Works Hill. Your support is crucial in helping us advocate for a sensible alternative that protects our community. Please sign this petition to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who travels through this area. Let’s work together to prevent a potentially dangerous construction project.
