STOP WASTING PAPER

The Issue

Your yellow-pages phone book is delivered annually.  At times, you get multiple ones dependant upon metropolitan areas that you live in.  When was the last time you looked in a phone book?  When was the last time you used it for anything other than as a booster seat for a small child?

My yellow-pages never makes it into the house.  I walk out the front door, pick it up, and carry it straight to the trashbin.  There have been times when I take it directly from the guy delivering it and he watches as I simply turn around and drop it into the trash.

WHAT A WASTE.

Some cities offer an OPT-OUT program for yellow pages.  How about the yellow page makers just voluntarily make it be an opt-IN.  Unless you request it, you will never recieve it.

Although most yellow-pages phone books use about 40% recycled paper and 60% actual tree waste (chips, etc) and no virgin trees are killed to make a phone book - the amount of paper used and then thrown away is staggering.

This doesn't take into effect the amount of energy it takes to produce all the books that people just throw away or the gas it takes to deliver them.  If you are eco-friendly, the footprint ONE phone book makes is staggering!  And for what?  To be thrown away IMMEDIATELY.

I propose that instead of delivering 10,000 phone books only to have 2 people want them, that DexKnows (and companies like them) have people call and request one.  The customer can either have one delivered or they can stop buy and pick one up from certain locations (perhaps libraries, post offices, or other easy to get to place).

The idea of dropping off a phone book to every house in this day and age when people look up information on their phone or online is ludicrous.

Help save the environment and make one less trip to your trashcan.
