The Issue

As a college student recently diagnosed with Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID), life can be quite challenging. This genetic disorder inhibits my ability to digest certain sugars and starches, making it difficult to enjoy a normal diet. Given my daily hustle as a student balancing classes, studies, and social activities, having convenient and safe food options is crucial. Unfortunately, the current market is severely lacking in snacks and treats that cater to people with CSID.

This isn't just my issue—it affects thousands globally who are trying to lead a healthy, normal life despite their diagnosis. CSID affects how our digestive systems process sucrose, isomaltose, and other carbohydrates. As a result, many of us are prone to frequent digestive issues that can severely impact our quality of life. Safe snacks and treats specifically formulated for CSID would provide relief and improve our daily living.

I urge food manufacturers to consider expanding their product lines to include snacks that are safe for people with CSID. Such steps have been made for other dietary needs, such as gluten-free and lactose-free products—it is time to do the same for those of us living with CSID. By working with nutritionists and health experts, companies can develop innovative products that will not only meet the dietary requirements of individuals with CSID but also provide tasty and enjoyable options.

Anyone, whether directly affected or not, can help make this vision a reality. By signing and sharing this petition, you can contribute to raising awareness about the dietary challenges faced by individuals with CSID and encourage food manufacturers to take action. Every signature is a step towards greater dietary inclusivity and healthier living for all.
