Replace Detroit's Christopher Columbus statue with Aretha Franklin!
The Issue
In light of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and after tons of public pressure, Detroit's statue of Christopher Columbus, located on Randolph Street near Jefferson Avenue, was rightly removed! This is great progress! BUT, it has been stated that the statue has been "placed in storage" for "evaluation".
We don't want this statue evaluated, we want it destroyed!
Sign this petition to DEMAND that Detroit City Council and Mayor Mike Duggan dispose of the racist Columbus statue IMMEDIATELY and replace it with a statue of one of Detroit's most beloved artists, the late Aretha Franklin!
To ensure that racist relics of the past don't live on in Detroit, we need to STAND UP and SPEAK UP together immediately to suggest a replacement!
