Student education is the goal, not negotiations

The Issue

Are you willing to settle for about 38% reduction in school hours in comparison to regular in-person school schedule before the pandemic hit (4 hours of school time instead of 6.5 hours before pandemic hit)

You want the total Distance Learning school time during the pandemic should be what it was before the pandemic hit. Distance learning school time during pandemic must include live lesson time, plus time allocated for teacher office hours, supervised independent study time and one to one session with students for ensuring effective learning.

Are you aware, FUSD is among one of the last districts in the State of California still negotiating with its Teachers Union (FUDTA). The State is doing its part in giving resources and extra funding. Parents are doing their part by being available to help all through the process. Now it's time for the FUDTA and FUSD to do their part without finger pointing and come up with a Distance Learning program which answers the questions below.

Questions:

  • How will the Honorable Governor Newsom’s instructional minutes standards be addressed and incorporated into your plan?
  • How will we the parents know that the distance learning process is working? What will the evidence look like?
  • How will you ensure equitable access and quality in a distance learning model to include: daily live instructional minutes, resource materials, external resources, homework, etc.?
  • How is learning going to be measured including: instruction, progress monitoring, and maintenance of school connectedness?
  • What will be the attributes that will comprise and contribute to a student's grade for distance learning?
  • Will you stipulate that homework is not a substitute for classroom instruction?
  • What kinds of office hours and support will you provide, and with what target response rates? How do we settle questions and concerns in a timely and constructive manner? What about more urgent matter that need near time attention?
  • What commitments are you making to further your own development including Upskilling with respect to educational technologies? (Learning is a lifelong habit)
  • How do we ensure that the Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan takes into account pupils with unique needs?

If you want an answer to any of the above questions, if you are concerned about the upcoming school semester then - Please sign this petition.
