Designate November as Veterans Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month

Kampanya metni

There is a pressing need to highlight and address the mental health concerns and rising suicide rates among our brave veterans. Hence, this petition aims to designate November as Veterans Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month, offering nationwide recognition of the struggles our veterans face and sparking crucial conversations on these significant issues. Studies indicate that approximately 20 veterans die by suicide each day in the United States, a rate that is 1.5 times greater than that of non-veterans (Source: Department of Veterans Affairs). Thus, it is vital that we acknowledge this crisis and take appropriate action to prevent it. By dedicating November to this cause, we can provide platforms for education, resources for help, and reduce the stigma around mental health among our veterans.

This is a letter of support to proclaim the month of November to be Veterans Mental Health and Suicide Awareness Month (Federal Level), Nationwide 2024 and every after. 44 to 72 percent of veterans experience high levels of stress when transitioning from military to civilian life, and about half of returning veterans do not immediately receive the resources, benefits, and services that they need. veterans are twice as likely to become chronically homeless than nonveterans, experience disproportionately high unemployment rates, and face harsh and undeserved stigma upon returning home after service.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among veterans between the ages of 18 and 44. the critical work of nonprofit organizations has raised public awareness of veteran mental health issues like suicide, substance abuse, post-combat injuries, and the transition from military service to civilian life.

The 22 Pushup Challenge has played a vital role in engaging veterans in supporting their comrades coping with mental health challenges, partnering with organizations dedicated to empowering veterans and delivering critical mental health services to veterans and their families.

Together, we can honor our warriors not just by remembering their sacrifice, but also by acknowledging their ongoing battles and providing them the support they need. Kindly sign this petition to join our cause.
