North Lanarkshire Council are planning to introduce parking charges for local community car parks in and around the shotts area.

Car parks include Shotts Park and Ride, Dykehead Cross Car Park and Main Street Car Park. Harthill service area West & East.

Businesses are already struggling for customers and soon we will have to pay for parking to visit local shops and small businesses that are vital to our village. It is essential for the park and ride areas to remain free commuters that to travel by train & coach. Harthill service area free parking is vital for travelling to Glasgow & Edinburgh why charge people from rural areas for parking when they travel to city centres. 

The charges will also encourage park and ride users to park on the already congested Station Road, Main Street and surrounding streets. Harthill residential areas near to the service area parking will become impassable with parked cars.

The new £580,000 park and ride facility at Shotts was opened in October 2013 this was funded the by Strathclyde Passenger Transport.  The car park was introduced to ease the daily commute, reduce congestion and carbon emissions in the local area.  Now North Lanarkshire Council want to charge for parking for local people trying to get to work, or visit the local shops and cafes!!

The council has asked anyone with objections to put it in writing with every signature a letter will be emailed to Des Murray North Lanarkshire Council Chief Executive  Please sign the petition
