Please to save the 66 bus from Buxton to Chesterfield. Serving Eyam &Tideswell

The Issue

The 66 service, which runs from Buxton to Chesterfield and Calow Hospital is due to stop running on 4 November. Hulleys of Baslow say it is no longer profitable to run it as a commercial service. Axing the service will leave the communities of Blackwell, Millers Dale, Litton, Tideswell, Wardlow Mires, Hucklow, Foolow, Eyam, Stoney Middleton and Calver with no direct bus service into Chesterfield. The daily service from Hope and Bradwell will also disappear.
The 66 is a lifeline to many local people, especially with the loss of banks and other essential facilities in the Peak District.
Derbyshire County County have so far rejected requests to step in to save the service.
So local Councillors CG, NB, CR, POB and .... are making a last ditch attempt to keep it going. They are asking DCC to agree to support the 66 for 12 months, so that all the communities along the route can have the opportunity to come up with ideas to help keep it going. In a joint statement, they said “Many local people depend on the 66 bus, and we think it’s only right that they should have a say in whether and how it can be kept running. We believe the County Council will be surprised at the ideas that come forward, but we need some time to enable this to happen. The idea of forming a Route 66 Partnership could well represent a model for such services in the Peak District”
