Derail excessive sentencing for Tajh E. Smith.

Derail excessive sentencing for Tajh E. Smith.
The Issue
18-year-old who unknowingly shot at police officers acted in what he felt, was self-defense.
Tajh E. Smith, of Salina, fired two shots at two (plain clothed) detectives and one (plain clothed police) officer, as they exited an (unmarked car) near the intersection of Fabius and Oswego streets on January 24th, in Syracuse, N.Y.
Smith was unaware that police officers were inside the black SUV.
As the victim of assault twice before, as the unmarked SUV approached towards him,18 year old Tajh reacted out of fear.
To avoid possible (40 years to life sentencing), on February 24, 2024 Tajh E. Smith pled guilty of second-degree attempted murder, just days before his trail was set.
With that plea deal, Smith had to "admit to firing multiple shots with the intent to kill someone." Tajh is now facing 20 years imprisonment as a result of accepting that deal.
Smith has (No past criminal history).
In recent weeks prior to this incident, Tajh was robbed and assaulted. This resulted in him having to get staples in his head. The offenders were also in a black SUV.
Fear led 18 year old Tajh to use bad judgment that day, yet this crime does not fit the excessive punishment he is facing.
His family and those who love him are prepared to fight for the justice system to sentence him fairly.
Please sign this petition in support of the derailment of excessive sentencing in his case. He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 8, 2024.
