Ban Greyhound Racing New Zealand started this petition to Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Grant Robertson

New Zealand is one of seven countries that still allows greyhound racing to occur, as many other countries such as Australia and America have started bans that came into force in 2018. As for New Zealand, it is very clear that we are falling behind and that action needs to be taken.

In the last 2 weeks, a fourth dog was killed by the greyhound racing industry since Grant Robertson announced his review on 16 April and the twelfth death since 1 January 2021. A further 23 dogs suffered broken bones since the review was announced. There have been 199 injuries in total. There have also been four confirmed doping cases in the last 12 months, however the greyhound racing industry only drug tests 7% of the dogs that race.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Racing Grant Robertson has launched reviews into the greyhound racing industry because of animal welfare concerns. "I have informed Greyhound Racing NZ that I am not satisfied the recommendations are being implemented in a way that is improving animal welfare, and with their failure to provide sufficient information on changes they are making.”

We believe that Grant Robertson should be banning greyhound racing as it has reached a point where the welfare of the dogs is too great of a concern as too many dogs are suffering.
