Good afternoon!
I would like to bring to your attention a recent change that has been made to the petition. When we started our campaign last year, the original ask was to extend the Bloor bike lanes from Runnymede Road to Six Points, as well as along Dundas to the East Mall. Since then, the City of Mississauga has been doing design and consultation work for bike lanes on their part of Bloor from Etobicoke Creek to Central Parkway. In a show of solidarity with Mississauga advocates, we have changed the scope of the campaign to include supporting bike lanes on both Dundas and Bloor from Six Points to the Mississauga border (Etobicoke Creek) as opposed to just Dundas. We updated the community letter for businesses and community groups to reflect this goal.
If you represent a business or community group and wish to sign on their behalf, please don’t hesitate to contact us at community.bikeways.toronto@gmail.com.
On Wednesday, March 9, more than 100 people took part in the City of Mississauga’s third community meeting for the Bloor Street Integrated Project which saw a clear majority of participants demonstrate support for Alternative #5 which called for uni-directional cycle tracks along the entire route. A significant improvement over the previously recommended bi-directional cycle track west of Dixie Road. This was followed by a ride on Sunday, March 20 in which about 80 to 100 people from Toronto and Mississauga biked on Bloor and converged at Etobicoke Creek to show support for bike lanes on Bloor in Toronto and Mississauga. Thanks to those of you who participated in the consultation and/or ride. Unfortunately, Mississauga City Council requested yet another meeting for the Bloor project over objections to Alternative #5 from the Applewood Hills & Heights Residents Association.
Speaking of consultations, Metrolinx is now expected to hold their 4th round of public engagement in Summer or Fall 2022 for the Dundas BRT which is expected to include a short list of design alternatives and stop locations for the Toronto stretch of Dundas from Etobicoke Creek to Kipling Station. This was originally expected for the 3rd round held in January 2022, but ended up being focused on finalizing the Mississauga East stretch. While no news of public consultations have been announced for Toronto’s part of Bloor Street west of Runnymede Road, details will be communicated as they come up.
Until then, please keep sharing the petition with your networks and ride safe!
