Why Are Family Members of Islamic Regime Officials Free to Live in Western Democracies?

The Issue

For decades, the Islamic Regime has maintained openly adversarial positions toward Western nations, including the United States, while continuing to face widespread international criticism for restrictions on civil liberties and political repression.

At the same time, public attention has increasingly focused on a perceived contradiction: while elements of political leadership within that governing system publicly denounce Western democracies, some of their immediate family members are able to reside, study, and pursue professional careers in those very same societies.

This raises a legitimate public policy concern:

Should individuals who are closely connected, through immediate family ties, to political leadership within governing systems that publicly oppose Western democratic values be able to benefit from the educational, professional, and civil opportunities available within those same countries?

As part of this broader discussion, reference has been made to Ms. Leila Khatami, who is publicly known as the daughter of former President of the Islamic Regime, Seyyed Mohammad Khatami.

According to publicly available information, Ms. Khatami has pursued an academic career in the United States, including serving as a professor at Union College in New York State.

This petition does not make legal allegations or assert personal misconduct by Ms. Khatami or any other individual.

Rather, it calls attention to whether immigration and vetting frameworks are being applied consistently in cases involving family members of political leadership associated with governments that maintain adversarial relationships with democratic states.

In light of these concerns, this petition respectfully calls on relevant U.S. authorities to determine whether any review they deem appropriate is warranted under applicable immigration and compliance standards.

This request is made in the interest of transparency, fairness, and equal application of the law, and does not seek to prejudge outcomes or advocate action outside established legal processes.
