"DepEd should not enforce the law related to teachers' to students' socialization"

The Issue

DepED tells personnel not to befriend students outside the school setting. Teachers and other personnel were instructed by the Department of Education (DepED) not to build relationships with students outside the classroom. Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte issued DepEd Order No. 49 s. 2022.

In social media, this is a method we call "bonding" to build closeness and the teacher gets to know their students better and the student gets to know his teacher. If the interaction is lost, communication will weaken.

So it will be difficult for students to express themselves if they do not interact with teachers especially if their problems and life experiences which is personal and outside the schools that need the guidance of a second parent. Based on the study Students are more struggling with Family expectations or problems. Depression, lack of energy or motivation, hopelessness, being overwhelmed, low self-esteem, homesickness, and loneliness. Relationship difficulties.

We can talk to our teachers because they are the ones we often spend time with since our studies and the students feel more comfortable with them.

Research supports the importance of positive teacher-student relationships. Teachers foster positive bonds with students by creating a constructive classroom climate, treating students with respect, having high expectations for all students, and maximizing success for each student. Positive relationships between teachers and students enhance student receptivity to instruction. Negative relationships have the opposite impact, increasing the likelihood that students who feel uncomfortable or threatened by a teacher will attempt to escape or avoid lessons. Teachers who adopt classroom management strategies are more likely to have a classroom climate conducive to instruction and to avoid learning environments where chaos reigns and learning is elusive. Teachers who adopt, master, and maintain the technical and soft skills of clear communication, set high expectations for all students, avoid explicit and implicit biases, motivate students, and show empathy will significantly increase student success and their own job satisfaction.

It is important that there's closeness because the learners has more connection to the teacher if there is communication both inside and outside the school. It doesn't mean that "TEACHER" will only teach inside of school. Being a teacher is not just a job... We are all teachers in life. Which is why they need to build closeness to guide the students properly.

The solution is to listen to the people's side, especially the teachers and students, where it is revealed whether they agree or not with this kind of order. We just want to respect the rights that we have to decide how we act by analyzing the situations and knowing the limit between teacher and student. People want to make friends with others outside their work zones and obligations.

A Review of Educational Research analysis of 46 studies found that strong teacher-student relationships were associated in both the short- and long-term with improvements on practically every measure schools care about: higher student academic engagement, attendance, grades, fewer disruptive behaviors and suspensions.

It is better if the teachers and students have a bond so that the teachers can provide a better quality of education. The same goes for non-teaching personnel. It's a new generation, hence, the techniques of teaching have been studied more. Being biased isn't good, and as teachers and non-teaching personnel are educated, they know that.

We Respect teachers' professions because they will always be the pride of students when it comes to education. They are always professionals to every student in how they put their strategies to teach the learners to be good ones. Inspiring, and motivating as an example. William Shakespeare once said, "A friend knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow.” This is proven by how they believe and support every learner.

As we proceed with this petition we need your help to hear our voices. Everyone can contribute to arranging the DepED order. Henry David Thoreau once said, "The language of friendship is not words but meanings.” Giving education is not just about how they give the lessons but it's about how they put the love into teaching to make wonderful discussions and build anonymous relationships with the students on how they support their students inside or outside of the school. We felt and appreciate that concerns.
