"Atithi Devo Bhava", a Sanskrit verse which means - consider the guest as God. This value laden verse is the tagline of the Ministry of Tourism to improve the treatment of the foreign tourists coming in India.

During my visit to North India, I observed that foreign nationals entry fees to heritage monuments are way too exorbitant. For example, In Taj Mahal an entry fee of Rs 1000/- for foreigners is a sign of discrimination shown to them. Although some amount of concession is provided for tourists from SAARC and BISTEC countries( Rs 530), the students and people from other developing countries find it too expensive.

Some suggestions for the administration responsible for collecting the fees:

a. The entry fees should include the service of an authorized guide as a value added service. This will also help in reducing unwanted botheration of these guides towards the foreign nationals.
b. Provide concession to foreign students and include more "developing" countries to the concession list.

c. The entry fee from Taj Mahal  is shared by the Agra Development Authority and Archaeological Survey of India. To improve transparency the revenue collected needs to be published on the official website   and updated periodically. The fund utilization details needs to be published inorder to justify the huge entry fee levied on the foreign nationals.

We all have a responsibility in providing a better experience for foreign nationals. Sign and share this petition. We need to raise our concern to end this bias.
