No re-hire for police misconduct fire
The Issue
Two weeks have passed since the inhumane killing of George Floyd by the hands and knees of several law enforcement officers. Over the course of these two weeks, we’ve witnessed firsthand the injustices, absolute power, and unnecessary militarization of police. We now understand that we have several reoccuring and problematic issues deeply rooted in law enforcement agencies within the United States. Systemic racism, police brutality, police militarization and police misconduct, have all been presented before us, as our protests continue to spread throughout the U.S, and even overseas to other countries. However, a number of officers who have resigned and/or fired, have been offered positions again within law enforcement. Information released today on 6/8/2020 reveal one Florida police organization announced they will offer re-hire services for officers who have been fired or resigned for police misconduct. If these officers are fired or resign for their own police misconduct or misconduct within their departments, they deserve to remain off the force. If we want to change how departments function for the better of our communities and our country, then those officers who have knowingly committed misconduct, should be banned from law enforcement. This petition was created to help spread awareness of the hiring and re-hiring process within law enforcement, which needs to have stricter polices regarding an officers eligibility for employment or re-employment, and address police accountability, which needs be held to a much higher standard, so police misconduct or brutality of any form, can cease to exist.
