The Second Chance Petition: Freedom for Shaheed "Shy" James
The Issue
Our beloved father, son, uncle, brother, friend, and mentor, Shaheed "Shy" Jasmes, has made a full transformation and has served as much time as his harm should ever allow - 26 years. The time is NOW to advocate for our Shy to return home, to us and to our community! Please sign this petition, requesting that Virginia State Department of Corrections give our King grace and grant him another parole hearing.
The last time Shy's parole was contested, he was just ONE vote shy of being released. We are faithful and confident, that our voice (this petition) can successfully gain all of the total votes necessary to for Shaheed to pursue his true chance at renewed life that he deserves!
Those closest to him, knows that his mind and heart are liberated - now we must sign and SHARE this Second Chance petition to help him gain back his full FREEDOM!
A message from Shaheed James:
I was raised a Muslim in Washington DC by 2 loving parents with 10 brothers and 2 sisters. Being the second oldest instilled in me certain qualities that I value to this day. My choice to participate in the drug lifestyle was not a reflection of my parents ineptitude but the enormous lure of our youth faced in the 80’s. I fathered 2 sons in that time period by two phenomenal mothers, who managed to ensure that my relationship with my sons was not implemented despite of my disposition.
My delusion to defend myself with deadly force caused a life to be lost and my incarceration is compensation and accountability for that. I vowed to never let his life be vain, so I diligently pursued educational opportunities that was available to me and maintained employment for over 20 consecutive years. My diplomas and training ranges from GED, painting and drywall, safety technician, suicide alertness, victim impact, and the list goes on, all of which are assets to society.
Maintaining my relationship with my sons, family, and friends has been equally impactful as I navigated thru the challenges of daily life. They have all been step by step with me on this journey, and my advice, mentoring, and counseling did not just extend to them, but those that I encountered in here.
I was fortunate to be chosen for Peer Recovery training which reflected my character amongst my peers. Prison has provided a means for me to look into the mirror, compartmentalize my thinking patters, and address the discrepancies within me that lead to my pour decisions in order to reach atonement.
I purposefully excluded details and charities as I felt it may be disingenuous with my intent. If there are any questions you would like answered, then feel free to email me at JPay.com Shaheed James #1015960
