Many people amazed how Manila Bay looks so good after many years of being polluted. And now, it has new white sand. But behind those white sand, do you know where it is made of? White sand from the Manila Bay is actually a crushed dolomite obtained from mining in Alcoy, Cebu, Philippines. According to Lia Mai Torres, executive director of the Center for Environmental Concerns Philippines, she said that dolomite is commonly used in road construction and not in beach nourishment. Also based on my research, some components of dolomite can cause discomfort in the chest, shortness of breath, and coughing and it also contains high amount of heavy metals such as aluminum, lead and mercury, which would contribute to the pollution and acidity of Manila Bay.

This petition seeks people to have a realization about how the dolomite sands on Manila Bay is actually worthless. It is not safe for peoples health and also for the environment. So instead of spending around P389 million of this fake illusion, the government should spend money on something that can truly help our country and not make it more worsen.
