Sexual assaults are rising and nothing is happening systematically to stop it. I think that schools need to make it mandatory for students to learn about respecting boundaries and sexual assault before exiting high school. College campuses and the street are where most assaults happen. It’s important for students to learn what sexual assault is and treat fellow classmates as human beings and not objects of conquest before leaving high school. With this mandatory understanding maybe there would be less sexual assaults in the street and in educational places. 

Research estimates that between 10% to 29% of women have been victims of rape or attempted rape since starting college. The National Crime Victimization Survey estimates that 6.1 sexual assaults occur per 1,000 students per year. 

Something needs to change in our education system so that students learn more about the real world, what’s happening and the consequences of sexual assault. Gang rapes happen on college campuses because if someone is drinking “it’s ok” to take advantage of them. Students need to learn how to understand and stand up for what is right and utilize the police if they see something happening instead of thinking that it is the NORM!
