Awareness for Psychological Effects of Bullying

The Issue

“We stand up for our harassed victims, and the psychological impacts will no longer be omitted!”

We need to stop the stigma on bullied victims, as if nothing severe happens to them! Bullying is gaining traction among researchers as the general public becomes more aware of the problem. More research is emerging to demonstrate the often significant psychological impacts of bullying, particularly for those who are bullied, such as an increased risk of depression and anxiety; others have hinted at what could be going on in the bully's head. Suicidal thoughts and acts appear to be more common in both groups.

Our team is here to see whether they have any mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety disorders (such as generalized anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and others), drug abuse, or antisocial personality disorder. We want to get to the bottom of this before it becomes any worse. But have no worry, there is indeed hope. You're not on your own, we are here to help and support.

Did you know that

  • 1 out of 5 kids is bullied? 5.4 MILLION students skip school at some point of the year due to bullying?
  • 9 out of 10 LGBT students experienced harassment at school

Bullying can happen to anyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other "difference."

Bullying is a form of youth abuse wherein repeated behavior is linked to power imbalances.

  • Bullies frequently target younger or smaller people, who work for them as subordinates, or who are members of marginalized or minority groups.
  • Bullies feel powerful when they embarrass or degrade someone. They could be envious, insecure, or hiding something. They may have been injured or traumatized and are taking their pain out on others. Maybe they don't have a safe outlet for expressing their feelings, so they lash out at someone who can't defend themselves.

Stigma-based bullying has long-term effects for teenagers' well-being and academic ability. Moreover, suicide ideation and attempts among adolescents have nearly doubled since 2008 (Plemmons et al., 2018), making suicide the 2nd leading cause of death for individuals 10-34 years of age (CDC, 2019)

Approximately 1 in 20 adolescents experience suicide in a single year (Andriessen, Dudley, Draper, & Mitchell, 2018)

People need to be conscious of how they treat others. People should be treated with respect, dignity, and kindness regardless of their personal circumstances.
