Dear Deputy/Councillor/Minister,

I am writing to you concerning my local primary school – Scoil Mhuire in Howth and its urgent need for additional accommodation for the pupils that are currently there and those that are expected to enrol in September 2016.

The school has currently 363 students, and has expanded by 100% in the last 8 years.  With the continuing increase in numbers of pupils enrolling each year, the principal John Chambers and the schools Board of Management(BOM) have sought funding from the Department of Education for the expansion of the school, with the building of new classrooms.  The Department have now granted funding for 2 new classrooms. 

However, they have turned the request for 2 temporary classrooms which are required while the permanent structures are being built - stating “that the level of school accommodation is adequate to cater for the teaching requirements of the school until the delivered permanent extension is complete”.  I as a parent of a child in the school find this decision quite concerning and wish for this decision to be overturned as a matter of urgency.
