Battle To Total Ban Of Liquor In Odisha #NoLiquorInOdisha

Battle To Total Ban Of Liquor In Odisha #NoLiquorInOdisha
The Issue
“Sell Liquor and Get Award!” This statement recently frown many.
Surprisingly, this new proposal absurd by Odisha Excise Minister recently in Assembly, where the Standard Committee would reward properly to those exclusive privileged holders shop who meet MGQ or cross it. Moreover to prevent poisonous alcohol selling and to generate more revenue, committee would sanction to more licenses to open new shops. How far it would justify our people?
Yes, being socio-economical backward state Odisha need to generate revenue, but not on knife-edge. Odisha has huge number of underdeveloped, low wage earner, illiterate people who are prone to alcoholism; Which leading towards loosing of quality life, breaking houses, working hours, ill healths and increasing of road accidents, fatalities, social disturbances, law order issues in society.
Illicit Liquor Death is not new for Odisha. A major case took place during 1992 where more than 200 people died due to consumption of poisonous alcohol and more than 600 people hospitalised then. The death toll yet has not been stopped, but increased tremendously. As per WHO 30 to 40 percent of total population are consuming liquor has grown 1.6 litter to 2.2 litter in a decade, which is fastest extend number as far.
Article 47, the Constitution of India say, every state shall endeavour to bring out prohibition in consumption of intoxicated drinks and drugs which are injurious to health. Even, Odisha former Chief Minister Shri Nabakrushna Choudhury had enacted the “Odisha Prohibition Act 1956” to prohibited manufacturing, sell and consumption of intoxing liquors and drugs in Odisha, till 1994 it was banned of Liquor but when INC came to rule in 1995 they lifted prohibition.
Hooch tragedies would continue until Government will not take any major steps or until we remain keep our silence. There are many states of India like Bihar, Nagaland, Gujarat and Mizoram with UT Lakshadweep has been banned liquor. Many organisation are concerned about this serious matter and has been struggled to eradicate this evil from our society. Consumption of alcohol causes main reasons poverty and violence in social life, where mostly women and children has to suffer. However, with support of many indigenous people, especially women from every background engaging themselves and spreading Anti-Liquor Movement widely.
Our focus sometimes may say NO, but we can make it to YES. Every idea whether it is bad and good, will definitely have some opposition, but that does not mean it is wrong or will stop trying. On note, together we can appeal to Odisha Government on prohibition of total Liquor from our society, from our State.
Odisha is rich in culture and traditional state which is holding World Heritage trade mark. There are many ways to generate revenue, but that path should n't to go through by liquor business.
No more broken houses, No More Violence on Women & Children. No more Social conflicts.
Urging everyone to sign this petition though our “Battle To Total Ban Of Liquor” campaign would fruitful.
Thanking You!
