Denzel Washington for President

Denzel Washington for President
The Issue
Dear Mr. Washington, I am sure by now you have at least given a bid for the presidency some thought. And while I understand the costs outweigh the benefits, I implore you to understand how much your country needs you. In every demographic you are respected. In every party, major or minor, you have voice. The world beyond our borders knows your name. Your potential for contribution to the political forum is no less than the last man elected who used his celebrity status to gain this honored seat. Please, Mr. Washington, consider how just announcing this consideration could unite millions of disenfranchised voters who have lost faith in the decency and common sense America has stood for in times past. This nation has suffered the pull of extremes long enough. We need a leader who can pull us together and inspire us. Mr. Washington, we need a leader to believe in, and I believe that leader is you.
Denzel Washington for President
“Maybe I should run for president,” Denzel Washington joked sitting down to a late breakfast in Midtown Manhattan last week, before immediately issuing a retraction. “You can’t just say, ‘We’re right, you’re wrong.’ You can be angry the next four years, and so what?” Mr. Washington said. “Don’t confuse movement with progress. It can lead to progress; it’s a vital part of progress. But it still has to be, ‘What are we going to do about it?’”
