Deny the Duopoly – Break Apple & Google’s Grip on Our Phones

The Issue

I refuse to keep handing over my data, money, and freedom to Apple and Google — the two corporations that dominate 99% of the U.S. smartphone software market.

These so-called “gatekeepers” profit from surveillance, exploitation, and monopoly control. We once agreed that markets ruled by only a few players destroy competition, crush innovation, and drive up costs. So why have Apple and Google been given a free pass?

That pass ends today. We demand real choice, and a more equitable balance of power.

Their stranglehold on our digital lives is not just corporate greed — it is concentrated power in the hands of a few. The duopoly symbolizes exactly what is eroding our democracy and society.

This is digital warfare — and it’s time to fight back. This isn’t about giving up our phones. It’s about being smart and using their power against them. All-out “data strikes” may feel bold, but they spread us too thin. Real impact comes from being focused, strategic, and relentless.

Let’s keep it simple, convenient, and impactful.

We must strike strategically and surgically at their most profitable revenue streams. That’s why this boycott focuses on just two actions:

1. Boycott YouTube
They control 75% of the video search market share, and it’s one of Google’s top revenue streams.

2. Boycott Apple Stores
In-person protests get attention — and iPhones account for nearly 50% of Apple’s revenue.

Apple and Google have sprawling empires of revenue streams. If we scatter our efforts, we lose leverage. But if we strike at their most profitable targets, we hit where it hurts.

With focus comes impact. If just 5% of Americans — 15 million people — take action, we can deliver a financial blow that cannot be ignored.

This boycott will last at least one month, coinciding with the rollout of Apple and Google's new flagship devices for the holiday season. A September boycott would directly disrupt their quarterly earnings, when Wall Street and investors are watching most closely.

These once-iconic companies chose profit over people. Now the people must decide:

Force them to change.
Or make them pay the price.

Our freedom is not negotiable. Concentrated power must be broken — no matter the party, no matter the politics.
