The Issue

Our cherished Sequim, a haven for retired folks, is at risk.  I am/ we are moved by the personal experience of two of my friends who lost access to water due to piped irrigation ditches and had to rack up over $25,000 in expenses to dig new wells. The water scarcity problem here in Sequim is real. The proposed construction by Seabrook Development Company of 600 new homes on 160 acres, if approved by our City Council, will exacerbate this issue even further.

Besides water scarcity, the consequent rise in population means more congestion on our roads, especially at the Hwy. 101 and Whitefeather Rd.   A proper Traffic increase evaluation needs to be done.  With an increase of potentially 800 or more people from this development, traffic snarls will become a daily nightmare for all of us.   Will the Department of Transportation fund changes on the highway, besides round-abouts?

Additionally, the housing boom in Sequim is already substantial without this new proposed development. There are plenty of developments in the pipeline that will provide for the housing needs of our community coming to 1000 homes.   We must consider these local issues seriously.  Does this development even meet the Growth Management Act?

Therefore, the permit for this sizable development should be denied.  We request the Sequim City Council and the Hearing Examiner deny any permits for this development.  Support our mission to keep Sequim a peaceful and sustainable place to live and retire.  Please, stand with us, and sign this petition today.
