The Issue

This petition is deeply personal to me, because my best friend tragically lost his life at the tender age of 20. His girlfriend endured a most horrific ordeal. She was raped, sodomized, then forced to watch the murder of her loved one – all in front of her 8-year-old daughter. The animal who perpetrated these vile acts was assigned three life sentence's, verdict's many believe to reflect the gravity of the offense. However, the prospect of this offender being granted parole presents another slice of injustice.

In the U.S., about 1 in 7 prisoners currently serving life sentences were granted parole in 2020 (source: U.S. Department of Justice). This means murderers, serial rapists, and other violent criminals could potentially re-enter society, leaving victims and their families, like us, living in constant fear. It is contradictory and unjust that the same legal system that condemns these atrocities allows the possibility for such violent criminals to return to live amongst us. The lifelong trauma inflicted upon victims and their families serves a life sentence with no chance of parole — it is only fair and moral that their tormentors do the same.

We urge lawmakers to rethink such policies and ensure that convicted murderers serving life sentences do not have the opportunity for parole. Remember the victims, consider the potential risk to society, and honor the judiciary's original intent when such sentences were passed.

We cannot undo the damage caused by these criminals, but we can ensure they serve the full sentence they deserve. Please sign this petition to advocate for a safer society where justice does not fail its victims.

Specifically we ask that Parole for Christopher J. Keeley, inmate at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex, be denied for the heinous crimes committed by him in July of 1993.
