Deny Industrial Rezoning of Our Rural Residential Community

Deny Industrial Rezoning of Our Rural Residential Community
The Issue
To Our RDCK Board Members and RDCK Planning Department,
We, the undersigned, strongly believe our Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaws exist to protect residents from the adverse effects of a proposed massive industrial Glulam facility (5 acres). Our OCP and Bylaws represent the consensus of the larger community on future development and growth . Our neighborhoods are designed to foster safe, healthy, and livable communities. When these plans are disregarded, our local environment, public health, and quality of life are at risk.
Why This Matters:
Protecting Health & Safety: Upholding zoning bylaws ensures that industrial developments do not compromise air and water quality, increase noise pollution, or otherwise endanger residents or our environment . Biomass burners will pollute our air with fine particulate matter and any chemical pollutants in our groundwater present a serious health threat to our wells and Kootenay Lake. We live on a highly vulnerable aquifer!
Preserving Community Rural Character: Community plans are established to maintain the unique character and integrity of our neighborhoods, ensuring that residential areas remain free from disruptive and polluting industrial operations.
Sustainable RuralPlanning:
Enforcing and following established bylaws supports long-term planning that balances growth with environmental stewardship and community well-being. We support environmental stewardship for our land, water, and air in order to ensure their integrity for future generations. This massive industrial site is slated to be built next to our pristine Kokanee Creek Provincial Park where salmon spawn.
Our Request: Please help! Your voice matters!
Please sign this petition if you agree that our RDCK Board Members should honour our Area F plans and bylaws and deny industrial rezoning in the middle of our small residential heritage community. Also please support our efforts to deny the rezoning of rural residential acreage by writing to our Area F Director Tom Newell (tnewell@rdck.bc.ca) and RDCK Planner Zachari Giacomazzo(zgiacomazzo@rdck.bc.ca) Let them know industry belongs in industrial designated zones that are far apart from rural residential and recreational properties.
This will set a dangerous precedent for other rural small residential areas. Protect our air, water, and land for future generations.
