Deny Hadi Choopan U.S. entry and platforms

The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the ongoing human rights abuses in Iran. Thousands of innocent Iranians are being arrested, tortured, and executed simply for demanding freedom. It is heart-wrenching to witness the brutal repression, and even more disturbing to see some public figures lend their voices to support the Islamic Republic's regime. Among those, Hadi Choopan, an internationally recognized bodybuilder, has repeatedly appeared alongside Iran’s leadership, normalizing state violence and oppression through his public endorsements. In a time where human rights are repeatedly violated, it is crucial that international sports and events champion justice rather than becoming platforms for individuals linked to oppressive regimes. Sports have the power to inspire, unify, and promote peace, values that stand starkly opposite to the oppressive actions of autocratic governments like Iran's. It concerns me that granting U.S. entry and public platforms to individuals who openly support such regimes might indirectly validate these oppressive actions to an international audience. These platforms can be seen as endorsements, tarnishing the values these events stand for and the image of the U.S. as a country committed to human rights and freedom. Hadi Choopan's presence in the United States, participating in sports events, provides him a stage to further normalize this abusive governance. The political implications of such a benign acceptance of public figures closely linked with human rights violators are profound and damaging. To preserve the sanctity of international sports events and uphold U.S. commitments to human rights, it is imperative to deny Hadi Choopan U.S. entry and platform access. Doing so will send a strong message that the U.S. stands firmly with the oppressed and not with their oppressors. We call upon U.S. immigration authorities and international sports event organizers to reflect these concerns in their decision-making processes. By taking this step, they can help ensure that public platforms and spaces remain tools for promoting justice, not for whitewashing or legitimizing crime against humanity. Please sign this petition to support the cause of justice and solidarity with the oppressed people of Iran by denying Hadi Choopan entry and platforms in the U.S.
