Deny Bail for Walton Van Rooyen's Accused Killer

Deny Bail for Walton Van Rooyen's Accused Killer
The Issue
Our beloved father, Traffic Services officer Walton Van Rooyen, was tragically and senselessly taken from us
In March 2020, while diligently performing his duty to ensure the safety of Cape Town's roads, he was fatally shot in his marked patrol car. Left to die alone in his vehicle, our father fell victim to a callous act of violence. Craig De Lilly, the alleged assailant, fled the scene, leaving an irreversible void in our lives.
The impact of our father's death has been immeasurable. He was not only a dedicated public servant but also the sole provider for his elderly mother and a loving father to his two sons. His absence has been profoundly felt, both emotionally and financially. More than five years on, while we have been grappling with our loss, the accused, Craig De Lilly, is scheduled to face justice in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court.
We are pleading to the court to deny the bail application of Craig De Lilly. Granting bail would not only trivialize the gravity of his alleged crime but also pose a risk to public safety. In cases of such severe nature, it is crucial to ensure the accused remains in custody to prevent any interference with the judicial process.
We call upon our fellow Capetonians to stand in solidarity with us. Our father's memory deserves justice, and together, we must ensure that violent crimes against those upholding the law are met with due seriousness.
Please sign this petition to oppose the granting of bail to Craig De Lilly and help us seek justice for Walton Van Rooyen.
New Update : The Court case will be on the 21st August 2025 in Cape Town, to deny the Accused of bail and walking free :

My Father deserves to Rest in Peace after 5 Years:
A Short story to Describe the Father i Lost :
My Dad was A Cape Town Metro Police officer, a role that defined not just his career but also the strength of his character, he always approached his work with deep care and unwavering commitment , always standing by his Duty with integrity alongside not just his friends but Family, i admired most about him was with even the demands of his job he never stopped being present , he was a caring father through and through , my memories of him showing up wheather he was cheering from the sidelines at sports games or simply being there when it mattered most, when i needed him as a guider, that has been taken away from me forever , my father balanced his authority with warmth and his responsibilities with love , He's dedication both to his work and to his family is something ill never forget.
I remember my dad once told me , never give up no matter the circumstance as a sea always grows bigger seeking new opportunities. It feels like a gentle reminder to keep growing , learning and facing challenges with courage no matter how uncertain all odds can seem, he always encouraged me to embrace life's challenges and keep puchinf forward even when doubt crept in , it's a wonderful example how he combined wisdom with care , offering strength when our family , our county and the City of Cape Town needed it the most he carried himself through his demands of the job/life and beyond that what always stood out to me is how he managed to be a strong responsible figure without loading the tenderness and presence that made him a loving father, that to me was rare and powerful.
I rememeber chatting to my Father, the night before he passed away over a phonecall, as i had moved to Port Elizabeth for work, he still asked, when am i paying for his flight trip to visit, as he's paid enough for me , this will never be forgotten, as now my own father cannot even meet his childrena grandchildren, be at his children wedding, see the growth his children has taken along the path of their lives.
My father was a Quiet Protector where his presence spoke volumes , he was a kind of man people felt safe around, whether they were family, friends, neighbours or the local citizens of Cape Town , his strength was quiet but unwavering , you didn't have to wonder or look where he stood , his work ethic and consistency point to someone who valued structure, responsibly, and doing things the right way no matter how hard life got even when it wasn't easy through my roughest times he showed up not just physically but with heart and purpose.
My hero forever and you will always be deeply loved.
We Love You.
