This petition cries out for justice for Dehaino Lee Bester, a talented young man brutally murdered on 02-11-2024 a few hundred meters away from his comfort zone, his home. Born on 15-02-2009, Dehaino wasn't just a beloved son, he was also a TikTok influencer and the team captain of his soccer team. He had dreams, aspirations, and a promising life that was violently cut short. The driver of the car from which Dehaino was shot is currently requesting bail.

At a social cost of homicide estimated at $17.25 million per instance by a research done by Iowa State University (2010), the weight of Dehaino's loss is not just personal but societal. Not to mention, the suspect's blatant unwillingness to offer information about the shooter adds insult to injury.

This is not just about Dehaino, it's about all those potential victims who might fall into harm's way should this individual be granted bail. The court needs to make a stand, that such uncooperative behavior in violent crime investigations will not be tolerated. We demand that bail be denied for the driver to signal to the community that, first, the safety of its residents is of top priority, and second, that those suspected in grave crimes can and will be held accountable.
