Denver Parks & Recreation plans to close the Dog Park in Barnum Park in late 2015 as part of wider 6th Ave. and Barnum park projects. They are currently examining alternatives, like building a new one at Vanderbilt Park on the South Platte, relocating the dog park to a smaller location by the swings or the possibility of simply closing it.

Barnum Dog Park is a heavily used and treasured dog park used by people from Barnum, Villa Park, Westwood, Baker and other Denver neighborhoods, as well as surrounding communities like Lakewood. We are asking that the existing dog park be fenced and incorporated into planned park improvements.

Moving the dog park to another location farther south or creating a smaller dog park near the tennis courts takes away a community resource that brings a positive element to the park that has struggled with violence, drinking and illegal drug use.
