Being affected by the changes occurring through time is inevitable. As of now, the Philippines is on its way to a more industrial and modern society. This however, makes us neglect the true essence and beauty of the country which is its nature. Many trees are being destroyed in order to build different infrastructures which ironically will lead us to our own downfall. This can be remedied by preserving the trees in the country which provides a lot of benefits not only to the country but also to its citizens and even the whole world.

A hundred years ago, the Philippines had close to 22 million hectares of old growth forest but at the start of 2000, we had less than 600,000 hectares of old growth forest left. It only took one century for us to cut 97% of our original forest. Results of the destruction of nature in the Philippines has started to take shape. This can be seen in the increasing number and intensity of storms hitting the country and drastic changes in our climate. All of this can be prevented by simply preserving and planting more trees. Since the Philippines is a tropical island, the existence of trees in it is very important. It helps regulate and maintain the climate, protects not only humans but also animals, and provides beauty. 

This is a wake up call for everyone to start focusing on what's really important. We must invest to what is really going to be beneficial for us. Not only can we improve our environment but also our economy. The beauty brought upon by trees in our country can be a source of income through tourism and can even be a huge help for our natural resources. Trees may be viewed as a ornament in nature but it's more than that. Now it's all up to you, are ready to take action or not?
