Using the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory policy for Fall 2020 semester in Denison.

The Issue

Firstly, the quality of the remote class is not as high as the regular class. Sometimes the professor would pay more attention to the students they face to face and forget other students in the Zoom or Google Meet. They forgot to change the position of the camera. When they were writing something on the board, we cannot see it clearly. We tried and sent several emails to explain the situation, but it not works. The remote students cannot learn things like used to. So, this class's quality will be very low and caused many people to want to drop. Forgot remote students is just one case. The noisy sound, blurry image, and bad network caused remote students to have bad experiences. I already heard a lot of my friends said that.

Second is the sleeping problem. Take countries in Asian as an example. No matter is Japan, China, Indian, Korean, or other countries, we have at least 12 hours of time difference. We barely do not have too much time to sleep. We need to study or work during the day so that we can complete our works. You might say we can sleep during the day and work on the night. That is not going to happen since we are in a country in Asia, not in the U.S. We need to keep going to our daily life. Some professors required attendance for all of the students, even the remote students. We need to stay up to the 4:00 am or 5:00 am.

Third, the grades problem. Almost all of my professors would not be willing to give students a high score; they would give thousands of reasons to find your mistake even you are right. Is this because last semester, that occurred a lot of high GPA? Even though it is a high GPA problem. Why do we need to take responsibility for that? We worked hard and studied in a bad environment and then got a bad score for the class that might influence our future. We are not deserved that since this is not the students' fault. U/S policy is not a wrong decision in many aspects. The students and professors on the campus will never know how hard and how many efforts the remote students put into every class. Then after we worked hard, what are our results? Just a low score and grade? I am disappointed with it. It is unfair for the remote students to get low scores just because of last semester's situation. We deserve to have that. Many universities decided to use U/S policy for a year since they know how to care about the students. Then what is so-called "care" in our school? Did you ever consider the remote students' situation and care about us? I think the answer is no.
