Demolition of children playground for houses

Demolition of children playground for houses
The Issue
Greenwich council have written to local residents around Richmount Gardens where the council have identified a children's playground which they think could be demolished and turned into council homes.
Richmount Gardens is a tiny cul-de-sac with a community hall, a young children’s playground and a piece of public green land with mature trees at its centre. Toddlers and young children can still play safely outside while parents and neighbours keep an eye on them from their windows, which is rare and extremely valuable in London. The cul-de-sac has a strong and vibrant community spirit, with a good mix of age, social background and cultural heritage. For generations, the community hall has been a centre for local people, providing day nursery care and a place for not only Richmount Gardens residents but also for the wider community to hold various activities.
If the scheme is allowed to go ahead, The additional traffic, during construction and after completion, as well as increased demand on utilities will have a expanded ripple effect on the larger areas of Casterbridge Road and the Cator Estate.
